Codfish cakes for breakfast or lunch are an old New England Yankee tradition. Mothers and grandmothers have served Gorton's famous, canned codfish cakes and baked beans for generations. Now you can revisit one of your favorite childhood memories. By popular demand, we have recreated the original recipe and individually frozen the codfish cakes for your convenience.
Make as many or as few as you need. Simply sauté in a pan until browned, then serve with baked beans, bacon, eggs or as a codfish cake sandwich. It's a meal Grandma herself would love!

When you order you'll receive 12 hand made, 3 oz, individually frozen cod fish cakes packed in a carton.

Codfish cakes will arrive frozen and ready to cook on your stovetop. They will keep nicely in your freezer for up to 4 months.
To prepare your codfish cakes simply cook the frozen fish cakes in a covered skillet on low to medium/low heat for 6 to 10 minutes. Then turn the fish cakes over and cook an additonal 6 to 10 minutes until browned. If you have a meat thermometer, the internal temperature in the center should be 165°F. If you wish you can add 1/2 tsp of oil or butter but this is not required.

Gorton's heritage is in salt cod. It's what we began selling when we entered the fish business over 150 years ago. Eventually we started selling canned codfish cakes that would become a staple in the cupboards of generation upon generation. Over the years, mothers and grandmothers faithfully prepared codfish cakes for their children and grandchildren, using Gorton's canned codfish cake recipe. We no longer offer our canned codfish product, but, due to popular demand, you can still carry on the tradition.
