A meaty, flavorful fish - Arctic Char is considered by many to be superior to salmon or trout. Cooks wonderfully on the grill or can be baked or broiled too.
If you’re a fan of salmon or trout, you’ll love the distinctive flavor of Arctic char. Similar in flavor, but with its own unique taste, Arctic char is considered by many to be quite superior to salmon or trout. Whether you’re in the mood for baked, grilled, broiled, or poached fish, you can delight in your favorite Arctic char recipes knowing the firm, flaky fillets will hold their shape and flavor well. Arctic char is moist, delicious, and a known source of omega-3 oils.
What's Included
When you order you'll receive a premium quality, fresh 14 to 16 ounce, skin on Arctic char fillet. Wrapped in butcher paper and sealed in clear plastic bags.
Preparation & Handling
Your Arctic char fillets will be delivered fresh and should be refrigerated immediately upon arrival. Fresh Arctic char can be safely refrigerated for up to three days. Be sure to wrap them tightly in plastic wrap to prevent drying. If you prefer, you can place them in a plastic food storage bag or airtight container and freeze them for up to four months.
Arctic char is ideal for broiling and grilling. It is also exceptional baked. To bake or broil Arctic char fillets, preheat the oven to 400 degrees, drizzle a baking pan with olive oil, place the fish in the pan, and top with butter. Add your favorite seasonings such as dill sprigs, lemon pepper, seasoned salt, or teriyaki sauce. Bake for 10 minutes per inch of thickness.
To grill, season first, then grill Arctic char fillets for approximately 5-7 minutes per side, depending on thickness. You may choose to brush a marinade over the fish while cooking to prevent dryness. Arctic char should turn a light pink color, and flake easily when done. If you have a meat thermometer, the internal temperature in the center of the fillet should reach 145ºF.
Item Details and Quality
Arctic char have been farm raised for approximately 20 years. When caught in the wild, Arctic char have been known to reach 35 pounds, but typical harvest weight is between two and eight pounds.
A member of the Salmonidae family, Arctic char demand is continually increasing. While the special farming requirements of Arctic char can make them difficult to find, production is on the rise helping to ensure Gorton’s Fresh Seafood will have a steady supply of this savory delight.
Its distinctive taste has made the Arctic char highly acclaimed. In fact, the Arctic char is one of the main protein staples of the Inuit Eskimos and a fish of stature among western royalty. You’ll find the texture of Arctic char offers a finer flake than salmon or trout, yet still gives a firm fillet that holds up well in practically all Arctic char recipes. When serving your guests, accept nothing less than the truly exceptional fillets from Gorton’s Fresh Seafood for your Arctic char recipes.
